Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Pretoria requires Security Guards to provide a professional security service in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 (as amended). The role aims to protect company assets, property, staff, and customers through vigilance, incident prevention, and compliance with company procedures and industry best practice.


Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Grade C PSIRA accreditation
  • Minimum 3 years’ general security experience within retail environments, such as malls or warehouses

Advantageous

  • At least 1 year previous experience in a similar security role

Key Responsibilities

  • Stay vigilant and alert to identify suspicious activities and act according to legal authority and Dis-Chem procedures
  • Conduct regular patrols to ensure visibility and reduce security risks
  • Monitor and control access to the site; document and authorise entry for both vehicles and pedestrians
  • Investigate and report signs of damage, unlawful entry or security breaches
  • Maintain strong visible presence to deter theft, vandalism and unsafe behaviour
  • Provide professional, courteous assistance to staff, customers and visitors
  • Conduct access control duties, including searching staff, suppliers and merchandisers
  • Maintain occurrence books, registers and security documentation
  • Supervise refuse removal per company standards
  • Protect company property from theft, fraud and malicious activity
  • Be present at your assigned post at all times
  • Deliver excellent internal and external customer service
  • Report unusual or suspicious behaviour immediately
  • Assist with store opening and closing procedures; ensure all doors, windows and taps are secured
  • Conduct daily personnel and vehicle searches
  • Report suspicious incidents verbally and submit written reports
  • Contact police/emergency services when required
  • Support emergency procedures and assist response teams during crises
  • Maintain order during evacuations and guide staff/customers safely
  • Provide ongoing safety advice and warnings
  • Monitor alarms, CCTV and operate emergency detection equipment
  • Conduct after-hours surveillance where required
  • Maintain detailed notes of incidents and daily observations
  • Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity
  • Perform additional duties such as responding to calls, messages or departmental errands

Competencies

Essential

  • PSIRA knowledge
  • Fire emergency training and Health & Safety exposure
  • Strong English communication skills (read, write, speak)

Advantageous

  • Ability to communicate in a third language

  • South African citizen
  • Clear credit and criminal record (MIE checks)
  • Driver’s licence, reliable transport and PDP (if deployed as a driver)
