Job Summary
The SME / Universal Banker is responsible for delivering excellent customer experience, driving branch business growth and profitability, and ensuring strict adherence to compliance and control standards in line with Absa’s policies.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth (60%)
- Implement branch business strategies to grow new business and wallet share
- Understand and offer Retail and Business Banking products based on customer needs
- Actively grow own portfolio and cross-sell to achieve set targets
- Collaborate with Direct Sales, Asset Finance, CIB, and Bancassurance teams
- Conduct market intelligence to identify new opportunities and trends
- Ensure quality onboarding and funding of new-to-bank accounts
- Resolve customer issues promptly and escalate where necessary
- Monitor daily performance against agreed targets
Internal Controls & Risk Management (10%)
- Adhere to Absa policies, procedures, and operational risk requirements
- Ensure full compliance with KYC and AML regulations
- Manage costs within area of responsibility
- Conduct branch snap checks as assigned
- Ensure accurate customer data capture and fee collection
Customer Experience (20%)
- Maintain excellent customer service standards at all times
- Ensure turnaround times (TAT) for onboarding, loans, and queries are met
- Maintain branch Net Promoter Score (NPS) targets
- Coordinate customer feedback initiatives with Branch Management
- Manage customer waiting times effectively
Capacity Building & People Management (10%)
- Promote teamwork and a positive work environment
- Complete assigned training and e-learning within timelines
- Identify training needs and support succession planning
- Manage own leave in coordination with Line Manager
Minimum Requirements
Qualification
- Business-related Degree (Preferred)
- FETC: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
Experience & Skills
- Knowledge of banking products and services
- Proven sales performance and ability to achieve targets
- Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
