Job Summary
The Managing Director provides strategic guidance for the ARO Country strategy, ensuring alignment across all segments, products, and channels. The role serves as the single point of contact for regulators, facilitates cross-cluster collaboration, and drives the execution of business strategies to achieve sustainable growth, operational effectiveness, and customer-centric outcomes.
Key Focus Areas
Strategy Formulation & Execution
- Set and communicate long-term strategic targets and metrics.
- Translate broad country strategy into actionable plans across the value chain.
- Engage stakeholders, regulators, and industry forums to stay aligned with market and regulatory changes.
- Oversee execution of business strategies with enablement across the business unit.
Customer Primacy
- Provide insights on market trends, competitor offerings, and global best practices.
- Drive customer-centric culture and prioritisation to enhance experience and financial performance.
- Contribute as an ExCo member to internal and external stakeholder agendas.
- Manage regulatory compliance and relationships in line with local laws and Absa governance.
Sustainable Growth
- Guide execution to achieve country growth objectives and overall group performance.
- Partner with executive bodies to align strategic objectives and translate into delivery requirements.
- Monitor financial and operational performance, driving continuous improvement.
Client-Driven Innovation & Growth
- Stay informed on industry trends and position the country to provide competitive products and services.
- Influence product and service development to meet customer needs and generate stakeholder value.
Leading Talent
- Enable people and culture aligned to brand values.
- Address performance issues, reward excellence, and lead talent selection, development, and retention.
- Provide clear direction on strategic goals, translating them into actionable business measures.
Operational Effectiveness
- Track tactical plans and scorecards, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Lead strategic reporting, projects, and cross-cluster collaboration.
- Manage franchise balance sheet, financial performance, and risk events.
- Champion change initiatives, ensuring delivery of business benefits.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Implement integrated governance and compliance frameworks.
- Manage reputational, regulatory, and operational risks.
- Ensure adherence to Absa’s risk framework, policies, and standards.
Data Monetisation & Digital Adoption
- Leverage data for measurable business performance and decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to digitise, automate, and optimise processes for innovation, efficiency, and customer primacy.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field
Experience
- Extensive leadership experience with strong strategic, operational, and regulatory expertise.
- Proven track record in managing complex organisations and driving sustainable growth.
- Experience engaging with regulators, executive committees, and stakeholders at a senior level.
