Job Summary
The Sr. International Banker at Absa’s New York Representative Office (NYRO) is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with U.S. Corporates operating in Africa, providing advisory services, insights, and tailored financial solutions. The role serves as a bridge between U.S. Corporates and Absa’s local in-country teams to develop business opportunities across multiple sectors including Energy, Agriculture, Healthcare, and Diversified industries.
Key Focus Areas
Client Relationship Management
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with corporate and institutional clients.
- Serve as primary point of contact, offering personalized financial solutions and advisory services.
- Provide guidance and support to U.S. Corporates on African business opportunities.
Business Development & Market Insights
- Conduct in-depth market, industry, and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and risks.
- Drive expansion of Absa Group’s presence in local markets.
- Develop and execute sector-specific strategies aligned with African market dynamics.
- Organize and support franchise roadshows and trips to the U.S.
Transaction & Credit Management
- Assess creditworthiness and structure credit facilities in collaboration with risk management teams.
- Execute corporate and investment banking transactions for U.S.-based operations.
- Manage client risk while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Sector Expertise & Advisory
- Provide insights on the Energy, Agriculture, Healthcare, and Diversified sectors within Africa.
- Develop thought leadership for internal stakeholders and clients regarding African market dynamics.
- Deliver specialized solutions in project finance, trade finance, foreign exchange, and cash management.
Travel & Work Requirements
- Domestic and international travel: approximately 35% of the time
- Eligible to work remotely up to 2 days per week
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (3- or 4-year) in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field
Experience
- Minimum 7 years in corporate and investment banking or related roles (Business Development Manager, Sector Head, Business Manager)
- At least 3 years providing banking coverage across Africa, specializing in Energy and Oil & Gas sectors
- Proven experience formulating corporate and investment banking strategies for key sectors and clients
- Track record in client relationship management, cross-selling, and originating new business opportunities
- Experience managing mega-projects in Africa with deep knowledge of project finance, trade finance, FX, and cash management

Salary & Benefits
- Salary: $300,000/year
- 40 hrs/week, eligible for Absa Employee Referral Program incentives
